For many of you that have been following my journey over the years (y’all are amazing by the way!) – you know that I’m all about personal development and positivity. I always try to see the silver linings in every situation because I am a firm believer that in doing so, everything eventually works out for the best. It hasn’t always been effortless to maintain a positive way of thinking and I’ve always tried to be open about it to inspire and encourage you all. When things aren’t going well it might be tempting to entertain negative thoughts, but I’ve realised that there’s so much power in choosing to see things from a positive perspective no matter what.
You’ve probably heard the saying ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ right? The idea that something positive can come out of every situation. Amex used this as the inspiration for their latest campaign and over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been harnessing a new positive mindset in my daily routine. This has all been part of their Platinum Linings Challenge set by The Happyologist Susanna Halonen.
In our everyday lives, no matter how well we plan, little unexpected things will crop up that can throw us off course; for example, getting caught in a long queue and missing your train, having a pigeon ruin your favourite coat, or needing to spend money on unexpected bills or repairs. No doubt, this can seem frustrating; but it’s not all bad, because there’s always an upside and this is what has inspired the challenge.
To kick off the challenge I had a private coaching session with Susanna (The Happyologist). We had a discussion about harnessing the power of a positive mindset and the value of celebrating the good in situations rather than seeing the downside of the frustrating little things that happen in everyday life.
As a new mum, I can get a little overwhelmed and find it hard to balance all the things on my plate sometimes. Susanna helped me to understand that by focusing on the good and walking away, taking a breather or just not focusing on the negative aspects of a given situation, I could get clarity back quickly and move on.
Following the session, I received a series of daily emails from Susanna with positivity tasks helping me to see the positive side in everyday situations. This was a really helpful reminder to stay on track; for example if work admin was getting on top of me, I’d just remember that I’m really blessed to be where I am and have the opportunities I do; equally if I was tired from another long day or sleepless night, I’d focus on switching off and getting some me time. Longer term, I want to think about having proper ‘technology black outs’ where I can focus on being present in the moment without looking at my phone or laptop.

Sometimes it feels like the easiest thing to do is to see the negatives in a situation, however, I have found that positive thoughts lead to positive outcomes. This challenge reminded me that we should all celebrate the good things that happen every day. I’ve always said that, “Everything can be figured out” and this challenge resonated with that mantra and inspired me to focus on my optimistic side. I will be applying this to my daily routine, looking for the upsides and being mindful of the fact that there can be rewards even where you least expect them!
